Learn About Collagen Induction Therapy for Women and Men in South Jersey and All of NJ
Microneedling at NJ’s South Jersey Skin Care and Laser Center is a simple, minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment commonly used to minimize acne scars, stretch marks, fine lines, and wrinkles. The treatment involves rolling a device containing ultra fine needles over the treated area, stimulating a natural healing response. The result is improved skin texture through the formation of new collagen. Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy.
Minimal to no downtime, negligible risk, and long-lasting results are a few of the reasons microneedling in NJ has quickly gained popularity among patients looking to erase the physical scarring left behind by acne or stretch marks, and to restore healthy, rejuvenated, radiant skin.

Benefits of Microneedling Treatment
Microneedling can be performed all over the body to treat large and small areas. It is suitable for all skin types and skin colors. The treatment can target areas of the face that are too small for procedures involving larger devices. These areas include the region around the eyes and mouth, on the upper and lower lip, on the sides of the nose, the chest, and the hands.
The main benefits of microneedling include a reduction in the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks, improved skin texture, and reduced fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment can also make pores appear smaller for a smoother complexion.
Many patients like microneedling not just because of its natural results, but also because it is affordable, effective, and safe for all skin types. Another positive: The treatment requires minimal to no post-session downtime. Patients are free to get back to their regular daily schedule as soon as the session has ended, though the treated skin should be protected from sun exposure as it heals.
Microneedling at South Jersey Skin Care and Laser Center involves creating tiny channels in the skin to kick start natural healing processes and improve a range of cosmetic problems, including wrinkles, scars, and other blemishes.
How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling involves the creation of controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the skin’s natural healing response. The process triggers the formation of new collagen, which results in reduction of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Topical anesthesia is administered to the treatment site about 10 minutes prior to a session. Treatment is then applied by rolling a device composed of micro needles about 15 to 20 times on the target region. This ensures a thorough treatment of the area for maximized results.
Each needle creates a tiny hole in the skin, which is significant enough to start natural repair processes, but not to cause the formation of scar tissue. The numerous tiny holes also serve as new entry points for beneficial topicals and serums applied directly to the face. Since these treatments are able to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin more quickly and efficiently, they can have a more profound effect if applied after a microneedling session.
Why Is Collagen So Important?
As a common protein, collagen is found all throughout the human body. It carries out a variety of roles, mostly related to providing structure, strength, and flexibility. Collagen gives connective tissues their unique properties and skin its supple feel and tone.
Collagen is also closely connected to hyaluronic acid, which is a water-loving carbohydrate that finds a home within the frameworks the structural protein creates. Together, these elements provide the skin with volume for a pleasant roundness.
Unfortunately, degradation of collagen molecules is a reality of aging. Fewer and fewer of them are found in the skin over time. Their loss leads to the creation of hollows and creases as volume diminishes in the face and skin grows lax.
Fresh collagen production, stimulated by microneedling and other treatments, can replenish the molecules’ levels in the skin. Not only does this provide renewed roundness and structure, but collagen’s wound-healing properties can also reduce the appearance of acne scars and other blemishes.
How Does a Microneedling Session Feel?
Although the treatment is usually well tolerated, patients may experience redness and swelling with minimal inflammation and pinpoint bleeding. Less common reactions include mild acne flare-ups or milia, which are tiny white bumps under the skin.
Recovery After Microneedling
After treatment, the skin will be very sensitive to the sun, and regular use of sunscreen will be advised for about a week. Additionally, no make-up for 24 hours is recommended, but your normal make-up routine can be resumed the next day.
The severity of side effects varies from patient to patient, but they generally subside within a few days. Talk to the South Jersey Skin Care team to learn more about what to expect and watch for, as well as how to best care for your skin in the hours and days following a microneedling session. No downtime is required.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments will depend on individual needs. However, most patients receive a series of four to six treatments. A minimum of four to six weeks is recommended between treatments to allow new collagen to form for optimal results. The effects of multiple treatments can be cumulative.
Patients who enjoy their post-microneedling look and would like to maintain it can arrange for maintenance visits.
Microneedling Fees
Many of our patients ask about the cost of microneedling in NJ. Generally speaking, the treatment is very cost-effective, but specific costs vary depending on individual patient needs. We recommend scheduling a complimentary consultation with our licensed medical esthetician for additional information.
Enhanced Microneedling Treatments
A specialized treatment, Vivace™, adds radiofrequency energy to the microneedling process, using the needles as delivery mechanisms for the RF energy. The skin’s response to the combined actions of heat and micro-injuries encourages significant collagen production for a smoother, more youthful look.
Like typical microneedling treatments, the best results are enjoyed after multiple sessions. After several applications of RF energy via microneedling, patients enjoy a brighter, revitalized look that lasts.
Complementary Treatments to Microneedling
Microneedling can be used in combination with other treatments, such as microdermabrasion (for polishing away the outermost layers of skin cells), chemical peels (for exfoliation), laser skin resurfacing (for encouraging skin cell turnover with light energy), and spa facials (for a relaxing cosmetic experience), among others.
