Our New Jersey-based practice doesn’t offer this treatment, but understands that people want to know about its therapeutic benefits and cosmetic effects, such as giving the shoulders and neck a leaner appearance. BOTOX® in the Shoulders: What is Trapezius BOTOX®?

Trapezius BOTOX® involves injections of the neuromodulator into the trapezius muscle, which is a large, trapezoid-shaped muscle in the neck, back, and shoulders. BOTOX® temporarily prevents this muscle from contracting by disrupting communications sent via the nerves. Injections are made superficially into the muscle with minimal discomfort. The full results can take up to a few weeks to show, and they typically last for three to four months on average.

What Are the Benefits of BOTOX® in the Trapezius Muscles?

Patients often request trapezius BOTOX® in an effort to achieve a slimmer, more contoured neck. BOTOX® in the traps and shoulders has many benefits, such as relaxing tight trapezius muscles, providing relief from pain and stiffness, preventing excessive contractions of the muscle, reducing the development of headaches, improving the balance of the front and back of the upper body to give you better posture, reducing the appearance of a hunch, and providing a leaner, slimmer, and more elongated appearance to the shoulders and neck.

Who Is a Good Candidate for BOTOX® for Trapezius Muscles?

Individuals who experience pain in the neck and back—such as those with very active jobs or who spend a lot of time hunched over—may be good candidates. You may also be a good candidate if you simply want a slimmer-looking neck. This treatment may not be suitable for individuals who have a weak or underdeveloped trapezius muscle or those with certain medical conditions.
